This collection shows the range of birds that can be attracted to a small urban garden. Help the birds by providing food and water throughout the year. Plant bushes that produce berries or provide cover. Try to stick to species native to your country. This collection also features garden insects, mammals and amphibians. Damsel Fly, blue. Hedgehog. This monster is a dragonfly nymph. It spends most of its life in this form and is highly carnivorous. Dunnock (aka Hedge Sparrow) - prefers to feed on the ground. Blackbird male. Blue Tit and House Sparrow, feeding on black sunflower seeds. Blue Tits fledglings with yellow colouring. Starling preening. Robin moves in and declares the feeding post to be its territory. It hardly even uses it! A fearsome dragonfly, fortunately only seen once! Goldfinch - very rare in my garden. This one is too young for red markings. Grey Squirrel - definitely a pest! Great Tit. There's a pecking order here. Robin on a hanging feeder. A group of young House Sparrows are beginning to get adult markings. Great Tit with seed. Blue Tit performs a strange balancing act with one leg. Starling. This young Wood Pigeon fell asleep in a bush. Unconfirmed Warbler or Chiffchaff. A birdbath in a good position can attract unusual visitors, like this Grey Wagtail. This female Grey Wagtail was photographed by sheer luck, spending only a couple of minutes in the garden. Wood Mouse attracted to seeds dropped by birds. Surprisingly tame. Goldfinches Magpies - a very successful scavenger. Potentially dangerous to nestlings. Greenfinch male has olive colour. Greenfinch male feeding. Robin on feeder. Robin feeding. Coal Tit, with white markings on back of head. Redwings, winter visitors taking berries. Blackcap male, a winter visitor. Blackcap male feeding Greenfinch female is less colourful than male. Blue Tit widens nest hole. Collared Doves Common Frog. Shield Bug. Seven Spot Ladybird, useful to keep aphids under control naturally. There are more than 20 Bee species in Britain. Two Spot Ladybird Ten Spot Ladybird Wood Pigeon Wood Pigeon takes a bath. Starlings bathing. Common Newts - 3 males with markings compete for a female's attention. A very large Bee. Large Red Damselfly. Goldfinches - an unusual visitor.
